ADP improves RUN payroll system, adds vaccine tracking

ADP has updated its payroll and HR software with new user design, artificial intelligence and machine learning features, as well as employee vaccine tracking.

Improvements in the RUN Powered by ADP payroll system include intelligent search capabilities, a streamlined user interface and a personalized dashboard with actionable insights. Separately, ADP has also added a Return to Workplace dashboard and a mobile app to its payroll software to help employers comply with the Biden administration’s push for mandatory COVID-19 vaccines at federal contractors and businesses with more than 100 employees. The system will track vaccination status and allow employers to offer proof of vaccination surveys. ADP is also planning to add a new weekly COVID testing function.

The improvements come at a time when businesses are weighing the risks and benefits of returning employees to their offices and how to deal with employee safety.

As the highly transmissible Delta variant of COVID-19 continues to spread, 42% of workers surveyed are worried about returning to the workplace for fear of contracting COVID-19, according to a poll released Wednesday by the Conference Board, a substantial increase from June, when only 24% expressed that concern. President Biden called on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration last week to draw up rules for requiring companies to require proof of vaccination and/or weekly COVID testing of their employees if they have more than a hundred workers. Federal employees and contractors would be subject to similar requirements. The proposal drew immediate backlash, however, and several Republican governors have vowed to challenge the requirements.

“As our clients look for ways to better understand how their workforce is feeling and how to safely bring employees back to the workplace, we’re proud to see this resource provide the confidence and data they need,” said Don Weinstein, corporate vice president of global product and technology for ADP, in a statement Monday. “We designed ADP’s Return to Workplace app to provide critical, dynamic and timely insight, and we’ve incorporated this new feature in our efforts to continuously adapt the tool to meet new challenges as the world of work changes around us.”

The vaccine-tracking features and mobile Return to Workplace app are separate from the main improvements announced by ADP to its RUN platform. The improvements in RUN review the data provided in the payroll system and flag possible payroll errors before they occur. Users also get alerts from state and local tax jurisdictions directly within RUN, along with instructions on how to address them.

“Anyone who has turned a dream into a business knows that going at it alone or with limited support is tough,” said ADP president of small business services Joe DeSilva in a statement Tuesday. “Small business owners had the courage to bet on themselves, and to grow in today’s dynamic environment, they need resources and support. The new RUN by ADP is that support system; it gives them the data and agility they need to help them be successful in their journeys, all in a new innovative and streamlined experience.”
