A new AI-driven app called Talk is now available that allows business owners to audibly speak their daily personal and work transactions into the app, which then categorizes the transactions and inputs them into a spreadsheet or accounting software of the user’s choice. Talk, which was co-founded by serial entrepreneur in the accounting space KC Truby, currently integrates with Xero and QuickBooks.

Talk is designed to double check each transaction against a user’s current list of customers, vendors and deductions, which over time, helps the AI learn patterns and improve. The app also stores images of documents, such as 1099s, for access later.

The app's developers have partnered with various software companies to help with broader functionality. For instance, Talk partners with Finicity to review all credit and debit transactions daily. If a user forgets to “talk” a transaction into the app, they receive what Truby calls an “unobtrusive” text notification as a reminder at the end of the day, so those transactions may be categorized correctly.

Talk’s partnership with Automatic.com uses GPS to track and record where a user’s car has been. A device physically plugs into the diagnostics port of the car so as not to drain the user’s phone battery, and then communicates with the app. After a trip, Talk asks if the user would like to include a business purpose for the miles driven, and a yes or no answer suffices.

Finally, Talk also partners with Fujitsu’s ScanSnap Cloud scanning technology. Users can use Fujitsu’s ScanSnap desktop scanners to upload documents into Talk for categorization and storage. The partnership means that users don’t need to drag and drop or email an attachment; rather they can just sync the documents to Talk with one button.

The app with basic functionality, which syncs a user’s transactions with an online spreadsheet, is free for download. Truby said that this level is appropriate for one-person small businesses making $100,000 or less per year. The second level, called Talk Pro, is $6.95 a month and allows users to sync with Xero or QuickBooks Online.
