AICPA names global head of ESG

The Association of International Certified Professional Accountants has named Jeremy Osborn as its first-ever global head of environmental social and governance matters.

A CPA and CGMA, Osborn will lead the association’s ESG strategic initiatives, which aim to build the profession’s skill sets around sustainability, and position the AICPA as a leading voice in the area as disclosure and reporting standards are being established.

He was previously director of accountancy relationships at the Value Reporting Foundation, an ESG standard-setter that is slated to be folded into the IFRS Foundation at the beginning of August. At the VRF, he worked with accounting bodies and leading accounting firms to promote the adoption of integrated reporting. Prior to that, he worked at EY, The Prince’s Accounting for Sustainability Project and Accenture, after starting his career at Unilever.

He will be based in London, and report to the association’s vice president and managing director of learning, education and development for management accounting, Ash Noah.

“This is a key strategic area for our association and the global accountancy profession,” Noah said in a statement. “Jeremy has deep experience in ESG, a strong record of accomplishment and direct experience of engaging with the relevant stakeholders in this category. The main focus of his job will be to help both our management accounting and public accounting professionals integrate ESG matters into their strategy, operations and reporting.”

“Working for the world’s largest and most influential accounting organization is a great opportunity for me to help move the needle on ESG management, measurement and reporting, which provide sustainable foundations for long-term value creation by organizations,” Osborn said in a statement. “I’m really excited to get started.”
