AICPA Inducts New Chair Tommye Barie

The final day of the American Institute of CPAs’ 2014 Fall Meeting of Council in Boston saw the AICPA Nominations Committee induct the next class of Board and Council members, including newly elected 2014-15 chair of the board Tommye Barie.

2013-14 chairman Richard Caturano oversaw the unanimous election of the Council members at large, Joint Trial Board, and Peer Review Board, installation of the directly elected members of Council and the election of the 2014-15 board of directors, officers of the AICPA, and AICPA Nominations Committee.

Bringing the Fall Meeting to a close, 2013-14 vice chair Tommye Barie was inaugurated as the 2014-15 chair of the board.

Barie pointed to her upbringing in a small town in Kentucky by a family of accounting professionals as a driving force in both her career and moral code. “As I stand before you, I promise the values I was raised on will shape my stewardship,” Barie told Council members.

Barie also pressed for “relevance, rigor and reach” to ensure that the CPA profession adapt and succeed in the future.

“Each of us plays a role in preserving our profession’s integrity,” Barie continued. “We need to embrace various cultures and complexities. The world is getting smaller [and] our profession must cast a wide net."
