Alabama Firms Merge

Accounting firm Lovoy, Summerville & Shelton has acquired Granberry & Associates, allowing the firm to expand its client base beyond its home town of Birmingham to Granberry's turf in the Auburn-Opelika area of Alabama.

The two firms will have a total of 25 employees and 800 clients. One of the LSS partners, Donald Howell, met Granberry & Associates principal Michelle Granberry through his involvement with the Auburn University School of Accounting, according to Lloyd Shelton, president of LSS.

"We liked her area," he said. "Auburn-Opelika is a high-growth area. With her skills we feel that she will help us grow the Birmingham audit practice."

Granberry specializes in doing Housing and Urban Development audits of low-income and moderate-income housing, as well as nonprofit accounting. LSS also specializes in audits as well as tax prep, Shelton noted. His firm's emphasis has been on corporate and individual tax plans.
