Instapaper, once at the forefront of the "read later" tools, continues to evolve, providing broader functionality than its younger competitors.

The reader app enables travelers and those with a healthy e-reading habit to access previously saved Web pages offline. Those articles are then synced across all devices and can be highlighted, shared and browsed by friends. The simple design doesn't interfere with the content, and can be adjusted for optimum readability.

Instapaper also recently opened its full API to all users, not just premium subscribers, so third-party apps can add their URLs to the app. Instapaper integrates with popular productivity suite Evernote and is now available for the Apple Watch.

Instapaper is available for iOS and Android.
