Avalara Offers Compliance for Online Retailers

SaaS-based sales tax automation service provider Avalara has added several enhancements to AvaTax Certs, its online system for collecting, verifying, storing and accessing sales tax exemption certificates.

The latest release offers features targeting online retailers. AvaTax Certs users are now able to place a URL that launches a certificate creation wizard anywhere on their Web sites, providing them with additional options for collecting certificates online from their exempt customers.

AvaTax Certs is fully integrated with AvaTax Calc and AvaTax Returns and also offers exemption certificate verification; digital document storage of each certificate; automatic association of the correct exemption certificate to the corresponding transaction; and automated tracking of certificate expiration dates.

“The new e-commerce functionality in AvaTax Certs further underscores the extent to which Avalara is delivering an all-encompassing compliance solution to online retailers, from calculating sales and use tax at the exact address level, to offering outsourced filing and remittance services, as well as our new online, fully-automated AvaTax 1099 reporting solution,” said Avalara chief executive and co-founder Scott McFarlane. “Our thousands of online retail customers will continue to benefit from the advanced technology features we’re building into products like AvaTax Certs, allowing them to become much more compliant, mitigate audit risk, and focus their attention on core business-building activities.”
