BDO Combines with McBride Shopa

BDO USA LLP is expanding to Delaware by adding the partners and staff of McBride Shopa & Co.

McBride Shopa has offices in Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, Del. The combination will add four partners to BDO along with 36 other professionals and staff members. BDO said Monday the combination is effective immediately. BDO ranked seventh on Accounting Today’s 2010 list of the Top 100 Firms, with $585 million in annual revenue as of June 2010. The addition of McBride Shopa is expected to add about $5 million to BDO’s annual revenue.

McBride Shopa has been a member of the BDO Seidman Alliance since 2000, where it cooperates on business development and client work.

“The addition of the partners, professionals and staff formerly with McBride Shopa adds the important Delaware market to BDO’s existing presence in the Philadelphia and the greater Washington, D.C., area,” said BDO USA CEO Jack Weisbaum in a statement. “We are excited about the many growth opportunities that this combination will bring to our clients and our future clients.”

He noted that BDO has a history of collaboration with the McBride Shopa partners and staff on client work and business development through their existing 10-year alliance. “McBride Shopa’s extensive experience in government and nonprofits will further strengthen our existing practice in the mid-Atlantic region,” he added.

“In 32 years of practice, it is not often you find a firm with which you share such a uniquely compatible practice philosophy,” said Tom Shopa, partner and former managing director of McBride Shopa. “With strong relationships in the business, government and nonprofit communities, our firm has played an integral part in the growth of the Delaware Valley region over the years. By combining with BDO we will build on that tradition by bringing our clients a wider array of services, expanded geographic coverage, extensive industry experience and additional resources.”
