Best Unveils GASB 34/35-Compliant Government Software

Austin, Texas (Aug. 6, 2002) -- Best Software has unveiled two software lines designed specifically for government agencies and meet that segment's newest reporting standards -- a "Government Series" of accounting software and an enhanced version of its governmental fixed asset computation program FAS Gov Suite.

The releases are compliant with the Government Accounting Standards Board's GASB 34/35 regulations, which, Best noted, take effect June, 2003, for all public schools, and state local governments. Additionally, the fixed asset product includes a link that enables it to seamlessly integrate with either of the new accounting solutions.

The new accounting products are government-specific versions of the established "Pro" and "Advantage" lines of nonprofit industry software from Best's Nonprofit and Government division in Austin, Texas. The fixed asset product is from Best's Reston, Va.-based Specialty Products division, best known for developing a commercial market version of FAS and the Abra payroll program.

"Best Software has been working with the government for more than 20 years, so we understand the challenge that GASB 34 poses to their organizations," said Kent Hollrah, president of Best's Nonprofit and Government division. He said the Government Series accounting products ease "the pain" of the GASB rules, and their integration with the FAS Gov suite makes "achieving and maintaining compliance easy."
