Doeren Mayhew expands Houston footprint

Top 50 Firm Doeren Mayhew acquired Houston-based Sowers & Co., expanding its local tax and outsourced accounting offerings in one of its focus markets.

Sowers offers tax, advisory and accounting services to high-net-worth individuals and small and mid-sized businesses in the Houston area. Founder and president Jason Sowers and shareholder Erin Fowler will join Doeren Mayhew as principals. The deal marks Doeren Mayhew's fifth acquisition in Houston in the past year and brings its local headcount to 220 employees.

"Our Houston office has gained strong momentum in the market over the past year, and Sowers & Company aligns well with our continued strategic growth efforts," Chris Masters, Houston managing principal at Doeren Mayhew Advisors, said in a statement. "Jason and Erin have built a respected tax and accounting practice with strong technical expertise, including an emphasis on estate planning. Their back-office accounting services will also complement our firm nicely."

Doeren Mayhew, based in Troy, Michigan, ranked No. 37 on Accounting Today's 2026 Top 100 Firms list. It reported $240 million in revenue, and now has over 1,300 employees nationwide and nearly 1,500 globally.

In 2024, it received a private equity investment from Audax Private Equity, with the goal to grow its geographic footprint through continued acquisitions. This year, it has acquired McMillan, Whiteman & Associates and Parlade Schaefer Schortz both in Florida, and New York-based advisory firm 1RDG. In 2025, it completed 13 deals, expanding into markets like Nashville, Atlanta and Miami.
