Best's Verni Named to Sage's Board

Atlanta (July 24, 2002) -- Ron Verni, president of Best Software and former president of that company's Peachtree unit, has been named to the board of directors of Best's parent, England-based Sage Group plc."Ron's appointment to our board of directors is in recognition of his continuing contributions to growing our business and confirms the importance of the U.S. market in achieving that goal," said Sage Group chairman Michael Jackson.

Verni, based in Atlanta, oversees all of Sage's U.S. operations, including Best Software's customer relationship management, middle market, nonprofit/government, small business and specialty products divisions. The divisions account for more than half of Sage's global revenue and more than 1.6 million customers, Sage said.

"This opportunity offers Best Software a direct voice in strategic decisions in the year ahead, " said Verni, who has headed Best Software since late 2000. Prior to that he was president of Peachtree, which Sage acquired in 1999 and re-cast as its small business division.
