Bloomberg BNA Boosts State Tax Library

Research and software vendor Bloomberg BNA has announced significant enhancements to its Premier State Tax Library, including expanded content areas and tools.

With the addition of information and functionality around excise tax, property tax, and estate, gift and trust tax to the resources on corporate and individual income tax that it already contains, the Premier State Tax Library on BBNA's Tax and Accounting Center research platform now covers all state tax types.

"This major expansion of Bloomberg BNA's Premier State Tax Library is geared to meet a practitioner's full range of tax research needs, from everyday tasks to in-depth analysis of specialized circumstances," said George Farrah, executive editor of tax and accounting at BBNA. "Developed with practitioners, our Premier State Tax Library now provides a complete, comprehensive solution that will benefit every state tax professional, whether you need information for just one state or all 50."

Besides researching those tax areas through BBNA's topic-oriented Portfolios, users can now look at them all through State Tax Navigators, which use the states themselves as the starting point for looking up issues. The Navigators for each tax area use the same structure and layout to make research easier, and include the ability to quickly create a chart comparing different states' approach to a particular issue.

Also new is the State Tax Development Tracker, which offers up-to-the-minute reports on what's going on at the state level. Users can filter and search the developments by state, date and other criteria, and save those searches for future use; they can also now receive e-mail notifications when developments arise in states they're interested in.

In addition, the new State Nexus Evaluators let users assess whether particular activities will render them subject to nexus in particular jurisdictions. After answering a series of questions, the user receives a full report on whether nexus has been created, along with decision-useful research and more details on the issues involved.

Other enhancements to the Premier State Tax Library include:

• The "My States" function that allows users to customize their view to include the states they're most interested in.

• More charts and content in the ChartBuilder tool.

• Prior-year statutes and regulations going back eight years.

• Extra state client letters and other sample documents.

• The ability to purchase content for individual states.
