Bonadio Group to merge in Howard LLP

The Bonadio Group, a Top 50 Firm based in Pittsford, New York, is expanding its presence in Texas by adding Howard LLP, a firm based in Dallas, effective Nov. 1.

The deal will create a combined firm with over 1,000 employees and $180 million in revenue, or nearly $200 million with Bonadio's subsidiaries and affiliates. The Bonadio Group earned $171 million in annual revenue, and Howard earned $15 million. The Bonadio Group has 103 partners and 852 employees, while Howard has eight partners and 85 employees who will be joining Bonadio, which ranked No. 43 on Accounting Today's 2023 list of the Top 100 Firms.

The two firms had been in talks for about a year. "Our firm has had a presence in Dallas since 2018 and this presents an incredible opportunity to expand our commitment to the region while enhancing our client service and bringing more growth opportunities for both our people and Howard's people," said Bonadio CEO Bruce Zicari in an email Tuesday to clients.

Howard LLP CEO Tim Pike will become the Dallas regional managing partner at Bonadio and a member of the firm's board, effective Nov. 1. He joined Howard in 2004 and has been CEO since 2021.

Jeff Wexler, the current Dallas regional managing partner at Bonadio who helped open the firm's Dallas office in 2018 will focus on business development and client service to support Bonadio's continued growth in Texas.

"Howard and The Bonadio Group share important compatibilities in our approaches to client service and corporate culture," Pike said in a statement Wednesday. "We look forward to building on the successes of our firms' combined 90-plus years of experience and are excited about the benefits our clients and employees will gain from this."

Howard was founded in 1973 and provides tax and compliance services including business, individual, estate and franchise tax planning.

"Howard features a strong roster of clients across multiple industries, a team of outstanding professionals, a culture that mirrors our core values, and an excellent reputation in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex," Zicari said in a statement. "For those reasons and more, Howard is the ideal CPA firm for us to join with as we seek to provide superior service for our clients and increased development opportunities for our people. We're thrilled to welcome Howard to The Bonadio Group."

In March, Bonadio acquired Webber CPA, a forensic accounting and financial consulting firm in Rochester, New York. In 2021, Bonadio merged in Ganer + Ganer, a firm in New York City.
