Calif. Firms Merge to Strengthen SEC Practice

Camarillo, Calif.-based Farber & Hass LLP has merged with Granada Hills, Calif.-based Hurley & Co. CPAs to solidify both firms' stake in conducting Securities and Exchange Commission audits.

The new entity will be called Farber Hass Hurley & McEwen LLP. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Both of the combined firm's office locations will remain open.

Farber & Hass's trio of partners -- Patricia Farber, Jeff Hass and Larry McEwen -- all spent time with Big Four before opening their own practice in 1990. They all have extensive experience in SEC issues and complex tax research, as well as mergers and acquisitions involving public and privately held companies. The office has a current staff of about a dozen.

Mike Hurley, who founded Hurley & Co. in 1986, will continue to head up the Granada Hills office with a smaller staff.

The new Web site for Farber Hass Hurley & McEwen says the firm is one of the only CPA firms in Ventura, Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo counties approved to practice before the SEC, and combined, will now have one of the largest SEC practices in the state. In addition to their SEC work, the firm will focus on its strong mergers and acquisitions niche.
