CBIZ Acquires Goldstein Lewin

CBIZ Inc. and its affiliated CPA firm Mayer Hoffman McCann have acquired Goldstein Lewin & Co., a South Florida accounting and financial services provider.

CBIZ, based in Cleveland, is acquiring Boca Raton-based Goldstein Lewin’s non-attest business, while Mayer Hoffman McCann is getting the attest business. CBIZ and Mayer Hoffman McCann operate in an alternative practice structure as separate legal entities. The acquisitions took effect Jan. 1.

The deal promises to expand CBIZ’s presence in South Florida. “Goldstein Lewin has been an integral part of the South Florida community for over 30 years with an outstanding reputation for client service and technical expertise,” said CBIZ chairman and CEO Steven L. Gerard in a statement. “We look forward to welcoming Jerry Lewin and his highly regarded team to CBIZ. With the combination of Goldstein Lewin and our existing office in Boca Raton, in addition to our Miami-based operations, CBIZ will be one of the largest accounting services providers in South Florida.”

Goldstein Lewin dates back to 1975 and has 85 associates working for the firm in areas such as tax planning, estate planning, wealth management, business valuation and litigation consulting. The firm recorded $13.7 million in revenue in the past 12 months. CBIZ reported revenue of $588.3 million for the nine-month period ended Sept. 30, 2009. It ranked eighth on Accounting Today’s 2009 list of the Top 100 Firms.

CBIZ plans to integrate and co-locate its existing Boca Raton financial services office with Goldstein Lewin’s offices, and record a restructuring charge of approximately $1.4 million before taxes in connection with the integration.
