CCH Beefs up Document Capture

CCH said it would improve its ProSystem fx Scan software for capturing documents in accounting firms by using EMC's Captiva software as the scanning engine.

The integration of the two products will allow ProSystem fx Scan to run as a service, instead of as an application. That allows it to work unattended overnight. CCH said the EMC software would also provide better image enhancement features to sharpen blurry images, fix skewed captures and grey scales, and better manage color images.

The software also offers improved optical character recognition features. Captiva can look for keywords in documents and find related numbers based on a rule, such as looking for a dollar sign next to a particular phrase.

Users can also set up a confidence level for scanning particular characters. The software will automatically flag any characters that don't meet the proper threshold.
