AMEX AUDIT COMMITTEE APPROVES PWC: The audit committee of financial services conglomerate American Express Co. approved the appointment of Big Four firm PricewaterhouseCoopers as its auditor for 2005.PwC succeeds Ernst & Young as the company's independent accountant. Ernst was to remain as auditor for AmEx through Dec. 31.

American Express engaged PwC following an extensive request-for-proposal process. The company's audit committee conducts a mandatory review of its outside auditor every 10 years.

There were no disagreements between American Express and E&Y on any matters of accounting principles or practices, financial statement disclosure, or auditing scope or procedure.

DATALINK DISMISSES KPMG: Datalink, a Minneapolis-based provider of data storage systems, jettisoned Big Four firm KPMG as its auditor and hired McGladrey & Pullen LLP as its new independent accountant.

In a filing, Datalink said that it didn't have any disagreements with KPMG.

E&Y OUT AS SPORT CHALET AUDITOR: Retail sporting goods concern Sport Chalet Inc. dismissed Big Four firm Ernst & Young LLP as its independent auditor.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said that it had subsequently hired Seattle-based Moss Adams as its independent accountant for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2005.

Sport Chalet said that it did not have any disagreements with E&Y over its last two fiscal years.

XYNERGY APPOINTS DELEON & CO. AS AUDITOR: California-based holding company Xynergy has retained DeLeon as its auditor, replacing Shelley International.

No reason was given for the change.

According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, there were no disagreements between Xynergy and Shelley International on any matters of accounting principles or practices, financial statement disclosure, or auditing scope and procedure.
