Change of Auditors

AMERICAN RETIREMENT HIRES DELOITTE: Senior living community and nursing care facilities operator American Retirement Corp. has hired Big Four firm Deloitte & Touche as its independent accountant.Deloitte succeeds KPMG as the Brentwood, Tenn.-based company's auditor.

ARC said that, after 15 years, its board made the decision to switch auditors and sent the job out to bid. The auditor change comes roughly one year after American Retirement said that it would restate its annual financial statements for 2002 to 2004.

NEXITY RETAINS MAULDIN JENKINS: Nexity Financial Corp., a Birmingham, Ala.-based holding company for banks throughout Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas, appointed the CPA firm of Mauldin Jenkins as its new independent accountant.

Mauldin Jenkins succeeds Big Four firm Ernst & Young as Nexity's auditor.

CITIZENS JETTISONS KPMG: Citizens Inc., a provider of life and health insurance policies both domestically and internationally, has dismissed auditor KPMG.

The Austin, Texas-based concern said that it has hired Ernst & Young as its new independent accountant.

ADESA INC. SEEKS NEW AUDITOR: Big Four firm PricewaterhouseCoopers has declined to stand for re-election as auditor to Adesa Inc., a Carmel, Ind.-based provider of wholesale vehicle auctions and dealer floorplan financing services. As a result, the company is searching for a successor.

AVID TECHNOLOGY HIRES E&Y: Avid Technology, a company that provides digital media management services and distribution solutions, has dismissed its auditor, Big Four firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The Tewkesbury, Mass.-based concern subsequently named Ernst & Young as its new independent accountant.
