BIG DOG HOLDINGS DISMISSES DELOITTE: Consumer products retailer Big Dog Holdings Inc. has dismissed its auditor, Big Four firm Deloitte & Touche, according to a federal filing.

The company subsequently named Singer Lewak Greenbaum & Goldstein as its new independent accountant.

No reason was given for the change in auditors, but Big Dog did not report any disagreements with Deloitte over accounting principles or practices, financial statement disclosure, or auditing scope or procedures.

MITEK SYSTEMS HIRES STONEFIELD JOSEPHSON: Check fraud protection provider Mitek Systems Inc. has hired California-based Stonefield Josephson Inc. as its new auditor, replacing Big Four firm Deloitte.

According to an 8-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, there were no reportable disagreements between Mitek Systems and Deloitte over accounting matters. Mitek did not give a reason for the change in auditors.

DERMA SCIENCES JETTISONS E&Y: Big Four firm Ernst & Young was dismissed as auditor to Derma Sciences Inc., according to a federal filing.

Derma Sciences, a Princeton, N.J.-based maker of skin-care products, has hired J.H. Cohn as its new outside accountant.

The company said that it dismissed Ernst as part of an effort to reduce costs, and not as a result of any disagreements over accounting matters.

CHINDEX TAPS BDO: Chindex International, a Bethesda, Md.-based health care company, has hired BDO Seidman as its auditor, succeeding Big Four firm Ernst & Young, according to an SEC filing.

During Chindex's fiscal 2004 audit, E&Y auditors had characterized several items as material weaknesses in the company's internal controls, including insufficient tax expertise.

The company said that fixing the aforementioned internal control shortfalls was identified as a "high priority."
