Chess Champ Joins Brown Smith Wallace

Doug Eckert, CPA, has joined St. Louis-based Brown Smith Wallace as a tax services member to lead the firm's international tax practice.

Prior to joining the firm, he was a vice president at Gardner Denver Inc., where he created the internal tax department. Before that, he spent four years as an international tax director at a publicly traded manufacturing company, and 13 years with Big Four public accounting firms.

"Doug's extensive background with international tax, both at professional services firms and within industry, will enable us to better serve our clients considering or involved in international expansion," said Marty Doerr, member-in-charge of tax services. "His practical and knowledgeable perspectives on integrating international issues with federal and state and local considerations will help us leverage our strong capabilities in these areas."

Eckert earned a BS in Accountancy from the University of Missouri - Columbia. While in school, he was a two-time U.S. Junior Open chess champion. He has also published a book on one of Garry Kasparov's signature moves.
