Cohen expands in New York State

Top 100 Firm Cohen & Co. has acquired Armonk, N.Y.-based accounting firm Gioffre & Co., effective Aug. 8, 2025.

Founded by managing partner Anthony Gioffre, the Westchester County firm offers outsourced accounting, financial reporting, and tax preparation and planning services.

Financial terms of the deal were disclosed. In addition to Gioffre, the deal adds five employees and an office to Cleveland-based Cohen & Co., which ranked No. 43 on Accounting Today's 2025 list of the Top 100 Firms, with $187.51 million in revenue, 13 offices, and close to 800 employees.

"Through our many discussions with Anthony, we have gained tremendous confidence in the strategic, positive impact this will have on our firm," said Marcy Kempf, partner-in-charge of markets & industries at Cohen, in a statement. "Adding such a talented team will help us continue to enhance and expand our CFO support, financial reporting and tax provision services, delivering tailored solutions to meet the needs of our clients and their investors."

Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP served as legal counsel to Cohen & Co.

Cohen & Co. announced a strategic growth investment from Lovell Minnick Partners, a private equity firm, last October. The firm's most recent acquisition was Tassi and Company in March, and before that Cleveland-based Tax and Wealth Management, Inc., which closed in January of this year.

In 2023, Cohen added Szymkowiak & Associates CPAs and its affiliate, Pear Consultants LLC, in Buffalo, New York, as well as BBD's Investment Management Group, a Philadelphia-based provider of audit and tax services for registered and unregistered investment companies. In 2017, it added Arthur Bell, a firm that specialized in auditing mutual funds, exchange-traded funds, hedge funds and investment advisors.
