Danish Accounting App Comes to U.S.

Danish accounting app/software company Billy has released its free, cloud-based accounting software for small businesses and entrepreneurs in the United States.

A cloud-based product that is available on PCs, Macs, tablets and smartphones, Billy allows users to create personalized invoices and e-mail them to their clients from within the app.

“Our platform has been built from the ground up by entrepreneurs, for entrepreneurs,” said Billy’s founder Toke Kruse in a statement. “I met so many small-business owners that, like me, were very frustrated with how unnecessarily complex Quickbooks was, so I decided to build a much more user-friendly alternative. My partner and I met with hundreds of entrepreneurs and freelancers all over America. They told us exactly what they wanted in an accounting software and we built a solution perfectly tailored to their specific needs.”

The software was launched in 2012, and currently has 50,000 paying subscribers.

According to the company, 98 percent of Billy users choose the free version of the product, but the company also offers a premium version for $29 per month that provides recurring invoicing, a quote creator feature and phone support.
