Deloitte Names New Chief of Deloitte & Touche Unit

Stephen C. Van Arsdell has been named chairman and CEO of Deloitte LLP’s accounting, auditing, capital markets and risk advisory subsidiary Deloitte & Touche LLP.

Van Arsdell’s appointment was ratified by the partners and principals of Deloitte & Touche. Van Arsdell, who most recently served as deputy chief executive officer of Deloitte & Touche with responsibility for the professional practice network, succeeds Nick Tommasino, who has served as chairman and CEO of Deloitte & Touche since 2006. Tommasino will become a vice chairman of Deloitte LLP and serve as advisory partner to several of Deloitte's top clients.

"I am fully confident in Steve's ability to lead Deloitte & Touche through the myriad challenges and opportunities presented by the economic recovery and regulatory environment changes," said Deloitte LLP CEO Barry Salzberg in a statement.

Van Arsdell brings more than 35 years of experience to his new role He has served as the lead client service partner to some of Deloitte's most prominent clients across various sectors, including aerospace and defense, manufacturing, financial services and consumer products. Van Arsdell has served also as a member and vice-chairman of the board of directors of Deloitte LLP.

"I am excited to take the helm of Deloitte & Touche during such dynamic times," said Van Arsdell, who will also serve as chief quality officer for Deloitte & Touche. Prior to joining Deloitte & Touche, Van Arsdell worked for the Financial Accounting Standards Board as a member of the technical research staff and as a technical assistant to the board's chairman.
