Big Four firm Deloitte and their Deloitte Foundation announced this week a renewal in their dedication to accounting PhDs and educators with a $1 million pledge; $650,000 of the donation will go towards the American Accounting Association/Deloitte Foundation/J. Michael Cook Doctoral Consortium, with another $400,000 supporting the AAA Robert M. Trueblood Seminars.
Since its inception in 1971, the J. Michael Cook Doctoral Consortium has given accounting doctoral students and top faculty members a platform to share top issues concerning PhD programs and academic careers.
"It is imperative for the sustainability of the accounting profession to not only grow the pipeline of future CPAs, but to also strengthen the quantity and quality of the accounting professors who will teach those students," stated Tonie Leatherberry, president of the Deloitte Foundation. "Since inception over 40 years ago, the Doctoral Consortium has assisted thousands of accounting PhDs who have in turn impacted millions of students. By funding key PhD education initiatives and continuing to provide real-world case studies through the Trueblood Seminars, the Foundation is helping to strengthen the connection between the profession and academia."
The Robert M. Trueblood Seminars, held annually since 1966, gather accounting and auditing faculty to discuss best practices and how to best navigate their students through the modern business environment. The seminar agenda also feature approximately cases, technical updates, and practice developments each year.
