Dixon Hughes Goodman launches diversity-focused 'Futures Program'

Top 20 Firm Dixon Hughes Goodman has announced the launch of its DHG Futures Program — an education program aimed at recruiting, developing and retaining minority undergraduate accounting students.

The paid program looks to train attendees with career and professional skills via real-world exposure. Freshman or sophomore students will first attend a Diversity Leadership Summit, followed by internship opportunities that further develop their careers, offer mentorship and expand their professional network to better prepare them for accounting careers.

Applicants must be college freshman, sophomores or "rising juniors" who self-identify as members of minority groups in the professional services sector. Applicants must have declared a major in accounting, finance, management information systems, or another business-related degree related to the program. Applicants must also have a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

“This year, we celebrate the centennial anniversary of the first Black CPA, John Cromwell Jr," said Tricia Wilson, managing partner of talent and leadership at DHG, in a statement. "Although much progress has been made, underrepresented groups still only make up a fraction of all accountants. We understand recruiting and talent acquisition tactics need to be reimagined. The Futures Program is a way to broaden the firm’s talent pool and recruit best-in-class diverse talent, not to mention enhance opportunities and enrich the firm’s culture to create a better employee and client experience."

The Futures Program will take place in the summer and develop over a three-to-four-year period. The inaugural program will be held this summer.

“When I look back to when I was an accounting student, I wish I had this experience not only to better understand the opportunities in public accounting, but also to build relationships that would help propel my career," said Kyerra Moody, diversity campus recruiting manager at DHG, in a statement. "I didn’t have anyone to give me advice and teach me the ropes so I understand first-hand the immense impact Futures will have on the career trajectory of students."

Applications for the Futures Program are being accepted through March 8. For more information, head to DHG's site here.
