Epicor Taps New CEO

Epicor Software named Thomas Kelly as the company's new president and CEO, succeeding former CEO George Klaus, who will continue serving as executive chairman of the board.

Former president and COO Mark Duffell is leaving to pursue other opportunities, according to Epicor, but will remain with the company until the end of March to help with the transition and with the integration of Epicor's recent acquisition of NSB Retail Systems.

Epicor said Kelly's appointment is the result of the business management software company's ongoing succession-planning process and is effective immediately.

Kelly (pictured) has been a member of the Epicor board since January 2000 and chairman of its audit committee since 2003. Since May 2005, he has served as chairman and CEO of MontaVista Software, a provider of Linux operating systems and tools. From September 2004 to December 2005, he was an entrepreneur in residence at Trident Capital and Morgan Stanley Ventures. From March through September 2005, he also held the title of CEO and member of the board of Transware Limited, a portfolio company of Trident.

Between 1998 and 2004, Kelly was chairman and CEO of Blaze Software, a provider of e-business software. He helped take the company public and led its sale to Brokat International and Blaze Solutions. Prior to his role at Blaze, Kelly served as CFO and COO of semiconductor maker Cirrus Logic, executive vice president and CFO of Frame Technology Corp., and senior vice president and CFO of Cadence Design Systems.
