CANADA

Deloitte LLP will be participating in the Canada Summer Games -Sherbrooke 2013, from August 2, to 17, 2013, as a signature partner and official professional services provider. This will be the second Canada Games Deloitte has participated in as part of its 10-year partnership agreement, which includes Halifax (2011), Sherbrooke (2013), Prince George (2015), Manitoba (2017) and Alberta (2019). This year marks the first time the Summer Games will be held in Quebec.

CALIFORNIA

Hewins Financial Advisors LLC, San Mateo, has launched an insurance and risk management division. Hewins and its affiliates at Wipfli Hewins Investment Advisors have designed the insurance and risk management service for individuals, families and corporations interested in being advised on and acquiring certain insurance products, including life, disability, long-term care and annuities.

CONNECTICUT

GEORGIA

PKF North America, Atlanta, added Accounting & Consulting Group to its ranks, giving the accounting association 103 members in the U.S., Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico. The firm also now is a correspondent of PKF International Ltd., which has 245 members.

ILLINOIS

Baker Tilly Virchow Krause LLP, Chicago, was named one of the Best Accounting Firms for Women for the third consecutive year on the Accounting MOVE Project list.

MASSACHUSETTES

DiCicco, Gulman & Company LLP, Woburn, put out an Architectural and Engineering Study which showed that after three years of slow but continuing improvement, architecture and engineering firms are healthier now than at any time since the start of the great recession. … Four members of the team at Baker Newman Noyes spent Friday, June 7, volunteering at Hale Reservation. BNN made a donation to cover the cost of new soil, flowers and some gardening tools, and spent the day improving the nonprofit’s property.

NORTH CAROLINA

Hughes Pittman & Gupton LLP sponsors HUB Raleigh. The organization provides access to flexible, affordable office space, as well as helps entrepreneurs to build a support network.

NEW JERSEY

The Mercadien Group, Princeton, has been awarded the Gold Level of Distinction as a Fit-Friendly Company. The American Heart Association’s Fit- Friendly Program promotes creating a culture of physical activity and health to live longer, heart healthier lives through walking. The firm also conducted its fourth Annual Business Outlook Survey. This survey was conducted provide clients with market specific information as well as identify solutions to their client’s most pressing needs. The survey can be found online.

NEW YORK

WeiserMazars LLP and Mazars Group teamed up on a discussion paper with Shift, a non-profit center on business and human rights on the development of global standards for human rights reporting and assurance. They invite comments from all stakeholders over the next month. The proposed standards will allow companies to demonstrate the extent to which they are aligned with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, which were developed by Shift’s Chair, Prof. John Ruggie, and endorsed unanimously by the UN Human Rights Council in June 2011. … The Online Trust Alliance has named PwC US to its 2013 Online Trust Honor Roll for demonstrating exceptional data protection, privacy and security services that protect customers and brands from the increased threats of cybercriminals. …Deloitte LLP recently tallied the numbers and found that the second half of 2013, executives expect mergers and acquisitions to increase 40.2 percent and cash deployments to accelerate 21.8 percent or hold steady 30.7 percent. NEVADA

The Association for Accounting Marketing distributed 33 Marketing Achievement Awards (AAM-MAAs) to 23 different firms in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the areas of accounting marketing and communications.

OHIO

BookKeeping Express, the U.S. franchise focused solely on bookkeeping services, recently opened its first office in Cincinnati, serving businesses throughout northeast Cincinnati.  

TENNESSEE

Decosimo, Memphis, is moving to a new location effective July 1. The firm is relocating to Suite 402 of the Marsh Center at 1000 Ridgeway Loop, located just a few blocks from the firm’s former Memphis location on Poplar Avenue.

WASHINGTON

Moss Adams Foundation has pledge to donate $500,000 over the next five years to the College of Business and Economics at Western Washington University. As a part of the pledge, Western plans to add the Moss Adams name to the soon-to-be-launched professional readiness center. The pledge is comprised of donations from Moss Adams employees and distinguished WWU alumni, including a major pledge by former Moss Adams CEO Rick Anderson and his wife Lori, along with a Moss Adams Foundation commitment to match partner and employee donations up to $250,000. … Swizznet, the QuickBooks hosting and online accounting solution provider, grew the number of accountants using its solution by 50 percent during the 2013 tax season. Swizznet attributes the growth to accountants finally embracing the benefits of cloud technology and setting aside the concerns that once made them wary.
