The National Association for Female Executives, with sponsorship from Working Mother magazine, announced its 2018 ranking of the "Top 70 Companies for Executive Women" this week, which featured a number of national accounting firms.
To determine the rankings, NAFE sent out applications featuring over 200 questions on topics examining female representation at all levels of an organization. The applications also asked if programs are in place that advance female leadership, or if managers have actively helped women advance to leadership positions. Ranked organizations must also have a minimum of two women on their board of directors and at least 1,000 staff members.
“The annual NAFE scrutiny of women’s progress at American companies provides a dependable barometer for measuring the movement of women into top leadership positions in the private sector,” said NAFE president Betty Spence, per a statement. “With women at only 29 percent of boards and 30 percent of C-suite members, NAFE continues to work with our Top Companies to speed women’s headway.”
2018 was also notable as NAFE increased its number of ranked companies from 60 to 70, noting, "At this year’s winning organizations, women increasingly are in power, making up about a third of the highest-paid workers, direct reports to the CEO, and board members...[w]ith supportive cultures that aim their leadership development, mentoring and sponsorship at women."
Of the accounting and professional service firms featured on the list, Big Four firms Deloitte and EY were recognized among the "Top 10" organizations for female leadership. The full list of accounting firms featured on the list is as follows:
