Financial Executives International has named Michael P. Cangemi as its new president and chief executive.
Cangemi, who most recently headed up his own media and consulting firm, Cangemi Company LLC, will succeed Colleen Cunningham in the position on Jan. 15. A member of FEI since 1985, Cangemi will bring nearly 30 years of accounting and corporate financial management experience to his new role heading up the 15,000-member organization.
Cangemi is the former president, chief executive and director of Etienne Aigner Group Inc., a designer and retailer of women’s accessories. As Aigner’s chief executive, Cangemi led the company’s expansion into licensing and guided the development of its Internet business.
Prior to joining Aigner, he was partner and national director of EDP auditing for BDO Seidman, where he founded and directed a service area for internal audit services. Cangemi’s career spans his progression from public accounting to CIO, CFO and CEO, and he also held senior positions at Phelps Dodge Corp. and Ernst & Young.
A CPA and a certified information systems auditor, Cangemi also served seven years as a director of the IS Audit & Control Association.
In late August 2006, Cunningham announced her decision to pursue other opportunities after holding the top FEI job since 2003.
