Friedman Alpren & Green, Ehrenkrantz Merge

New York (June 4, 2004) -- Regional New York firm Friedman Alpren & Green LLP has merged with Livingston, N.J.-based Ehrenkrantz Sterling & Co. LLC, forming a 30-partner firm that now operates under the brand Friedman LLP.

The merger became effective June 1.

Friedman Alpren managing partner Bruce Madnick serves as the combined firm's managing partner, while Jeffrey D. Zudeck, managing partner at Ehrenkrantz Sterling, serves as managing partner at Friedman’s Livingston office.

“When you do a merger you don’t always know the people that well,” Madnick told WebCPA. “But we both were members of DFK International [a global network of independent firms and business advisors] so we had known them for a year and a half. Ironically, we had been getting inquiries from firms in New Jersey who were interested in merging with us when Ehrenkrantz said, ‘We’d love to talk to you too.’ So we had a handshake deal in November and put off the official details until after the busy season.”

Madnick added that Ehrenkrantz brings expertise in such areas as medical practices, auto dealerships and broker/dealers. “They also have good, aggressive partners, which we like,” he said.

Prior to the merger, Friedman Alpren & Green ranked No. 85 on Accounting Today’s 2004 Top 100 Firms list with revenues of roughly $21 million.
