GoFileRoom Introduces TaxSort for CPA Firms

Thomson Tax & Accounting's GoFileRoom announced the release of TaxSort, an add-on module for the GoFileRoom Web-hosted document management application.

TaxSort is designed to automate the identification of scanned tax documents.

Touting GoFileRoom's scanning, indexing and bar-coding features, vice president of business development Joe Harpaz says that firms using the technology can also automate the creation of bookmarked PDF files, using barcode sheets.

"With TaxSort, we are taking the next step and automating document identification," he said. "Imagine walking up to your scanner, dropping in a client's source documents and out pops an organized, bookmarked PDF, with each document type, such as W-2 or K-1, identified and in the correct order. This is what TaxSort does."

Because automated document identification isn't a perfect technology, many applications require each individual organization to build and maintain its own rules and heuristics to identify forms and documents. GoFileRoom has a central "brain" that is shared among firms -- as the brain learns more, the identification process improves and benefits are shared by all. Harpaz said that it's this central learning capability that makes TaxSort a cutting-edge solution.
