Charles Hendry was presented with the 2013 Meritorious Service Award by The Georgia Society of CPAs. The award represents GSCPA’s highest honor and is presented to an individual based on service to the profession, the Society and their community.

Hendry held a number of leadership positions throughout his community of Dalton, Ga., including the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation Inc., Hamilton Healthcare System Inc., Housing Authority City of Dalton, Dalton College Foundation, Georgia Sheriff’s Cherokee Estate Youth Home, Kiwanis Club of Dalton, Carpet City Rotary Club, United Way of Northwest Georgia and Dalton-Whitfield Chamber of Commerce.

Hendry, who is an advisor at the regional accounting firm Decosimo, has worked in the accounting profession for nearly 50 years. Throughout his career he provided audit, assurance, tax and management services to companies in the textile industry, along with additional concentrations in medical practice, estates and trusts. He also served as president of GSCPA’s Educational Foundation where he worked toward improving professional standards in the state of Georgia.

Hendry earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia in 1961and his Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Florida in 1962. By 1964, Hendry received his CPA license and started his career at Arthur Anderson before moving to Dalton, Ga., where he was partner at Hendry & Bailey PC. In 1988, he merged his practice with Decosimo and served as the managing principal of Decosimo’s Dalton office until he retired in 2008.
