Horne LLP expands its Tenn. presence

Regional powerhouse Horne LLP, a 21-partner firm based here, has bolstered its staff and expanded its Tennessee presence with the merger of Jackson, Tenn.-based Crain & Co. into its fold.

The deal, effective Jan. 1, adds revenue of $2.5 million, one office and roughly 30 staff, including three partners, to Horne's $30.3 million, eight offices and 325 employees. Crain & Co. managing partner Katherine Watts joins Horne as partner-in-charge of the Jackson, Tenn., office.

In addition to core accounting, audit and tax services, Crain & Co. specializes in health care services, building Horne's niche in that area.

"The main driver here is the quality of the people," said Horne executive partner Hugh Parker. "The merger also broadens our presence in Tennessee and gives us greater depth in health care and core services."

"Crain & Co. is a well-established firm with a significant history of excellent client service and involvement in their community, and that really fits with who we are," Parker said.

About a third of Horne's practice is in health care, both institutional and physician services. The firm also has niches in franchise and hospitality, benefit plans, retail and construction.

Horne's last merger, also in Tennessee, was in 2003, when it merged in Nashville-area firm Grannis Witensant & Associates.
