House OKs Military Tax Relief Package

By an overwhelming 420-0 margin, lawmakers approved the Fallen Patriots Tax Relief Act, an armed forces tax-relief package that includes a $12,000 tax-exempt death gratuity benefit.

H.R. 3365, also proposes to suspend the tax-exempt status of terrorist organizations, and extends income and estate tax relief to victims of the September 11 attacks.

"We can't repay America's military for their bravery when defending our country," said Bill Thomas, R-Calif., chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. "This is only a small step in showing our appreciation."
