House Passes Budget Along Party Lines

Despite the distractions of war in Iraq, House lawmakers this week narrowly approved President Bush’s budget along party lines.

The measure includes nearly $550 billion in tax cuts through 2013, and raises the nation’s legal debt limit to nearly $1 trillion. The $2.27 trillion budget was approved by lawmakers 216-211.

The bill will next be taken up by the Senate, where it may face stiffer opposition.
