MARCUM & KLIEGMAN MERGES WITH ROSENFARBWINTERSMelville, N.Y. — CPA firm Marcum & Kliegman is expanding from New York to New Jersey by merging with RosenfarbWinters, a specialist in forensic accounting. The combined firm will operate under the name M&K Rosenfarb. MKR will include M&K’s offices in New York City and Long Island, as well as Rosenfarb’s offices in Tinton Falls and Roseland, N.J., and New York City.

The combined firm will have about 500 employees, but there are plans for further expansion to more than 1,000 employees in the next three years, according to managing partner Jeffrey Weiner.

FIRM DEFRAYS EMPLOYEE GAS COSTS

Northbrook, Ill. — Steinberg Advisors has set up an unusual bonus program, giving its full-time employees a one-time bonus of $1,200 to help them cope with rising energy costs.

The firm is labeling the program the Steinberg Economic Stimulus Plan. The program is intended to supplement the economic stimulus payments that the IRS is distributing. The extra bonus is in addition to other benefits offered by the firm, including flextime during the summer and learning opportunities.

GRANT THORNTON FUNDS RUNNERS

San Diego — Grant Thornton is sponsoring 230 of its employees and partners from around the country who want to run in San Diego’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon, covering all of their travel, hotel and entrance fee costs.

More than 40 GT offices will be participating. The initiative is part of the firm’s effort to promote healthy lifestyles. The Grant Thornton Running Club also provides employees with the opportunity to run a firm-designated marathon each year, with travel, hotel and race registration fees paid for by the firm.
