The Institute of Internal Auditors has elected Naohiro Mouri, executive vice president and chief auditor of American International Group, as chairman of the IIA’s 2018-19 Global Board of Directors and named other members of the board. The election occurred at the IIA’s Annual Business Meeting after its 2018 International Conference in Dubai.
Before joining AIG, Mouri was statutory executive officer, senior vice president and chief auditor at MetLife Alico Insurance K.K. Japan. He also led audit departments at J.P. Morgan Asia Pacific; Shinsei Bank; Morgan Stanley Japan; and Deutsche Bank Japan. He started his career at Arthur Andersen in Atlanta and Tokyo.
“I am delighted about Naohiro Mouri’s appointment as the IIA’s new global chairman,” said IIA president and CEO Richard Chambers in a statement. “He is a seasoned professional and an instrumental, longtime IIA volunteer who I know will bring strong direction and leadership to this role. With a distinguished career in internal auditing, he has made significant contributions to the profession and we are honored that he has taken on this important position.”
As his chairman’s year theme, Mouri is using “Emphasize the Basics. Elevate the Standards.” He plans to remind internal auditors that conformance to the IIA’s standards is essential to the entire internal audit profession.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as The IIA’s global chairman,” Mouri said in a statement. “Because I truly love the profession, I want to stress the importance of going back to the very basics. That means understanding how important the Standards are for becoming the trusted advisors we aspire to be. If each of us strives to elevate the Standards in our daily practice, then together we can raise the profession to new heights.”
