Market research firm IDC has recognized Intuit’s work with IBM on the Smart Business Platform as part of its first SMB Excellence Awards.

Intuit and 15 other companies were judged across six categories, including market segmentation, customer targeting, cloud offerings and innovative alliances.

According to IDC’s lead SMB analyst Ray Boggs, “IDC will continue to identify and recognize exceptional efforts of firms engaging the SMB market. [We] expect the creativity and initiative shown by the first group of IDC SMB Excellence Award recipients will be echoed in the activities of other innovators.”

Boggs specified four themes exhibited by this year’s winners that IDC feels will emerge as critical to distinguishing noteworthy small and midsized business efforts: leveraging cloud computing and Software as a Service capabilities, capitalizing on new alliances, and sharpening the focus on specific SMB groups, while delivering more effective technology support.
