IRS Releases Tax Stats for Corporations

The Internal Revenue Service has released the Corporation Source Book, which presents balance sheet, income statement, tax and other statistics across various industrial sectors.

The statistical tables are organized according to industrial sectors, major groups within a sector, and selected items by the size of total assets for all returns with and without net income.

Data from the source book underlies the IRS's annual "Statistics of Income-Corporation Income Tax Returns." The IRS shows the listing by industrial sector. Users can select the U.S. total for aggregated data for all industries, one of the sectors to access data for that sector, along with data for the major groups and minor industries within that sector.

Another option is to download all the source data contained in the Microsoft Excel files as one comma-separated value file.

The source book contains information on sectors such as manufacturing, construction, utilities, mining, educational services, finance and insurance, and health care and social assistance.
