Taxpayers can securely obtain and download the report, which they can pass along to a financial institution such as a bank, as well as government agencies and other organizations that can use the report's built-in digital certificate to verify its authenticity, The report could eventually supplant use of the most recent tax return when applying for loans and government benefits.

The certificate helps protect taxpayer information and maintains the integrity of the report.

"By providing a secure, digitally authenticated report, the IRS is making it easier for taxpayers to access and share important information while protecting privacy and data integrity," said IRS CEO Frank Bisignano in a statement Thursday.

Each Tax Compliance Report will include an IRS-issued digital certificate that confirms its authenticity. The verification features will be embedded directly in the downloadable file, according to the IRS. Taxpayers will able be to access and download their report at any time through their IRS Individual Online Account. Each report will include the same standardized authentication and verification features.
