The Internal Revenue Service has released its annual “Dirty Dozen” list of tax scams, cautioning taxpayers to protect themselves against a wide range of schemes ranging from identity theft to tax return preparer fraud this tax season.

The Dirty Dozen listing, compiled by the IRS every year, lists various common scams that taxpayers can encounter at any point during the year. Many of the schemes peak during filing season as people prepare their tax returns.
