Parsippany, N.J. (Dec. 12, 2003) -- Jackson Hewitt Inc. has partnered with hip-hop music mogul Russell Simmons in a deal to offer discounted tax preparation services to people without a traditional banking relationship.
Starting Jan. 1, under the partnership with Simmons’ company, UniRush Financial Services, Rush Prepaid Visa Card holders can get a coupon for $20.00 off the cost of tax preparation at any Jackson Hewitt location during the coming tax season, and can avoid paying check cashing fees on their refund checks by having their refunds directly deposited for free onto the Rush Prepaid Visa Card. Cardholders can also get free electronic filing of their return. When they e-file, Rush Card holders will have access to their refunds within 11 to 17 days of the filing date.
The partnership also seeks to educate and inform people who qualify for it of the Earned Income Tax Credit. According to Internal Revenue Service figures, over $2 billion in Earned Income Tax Credits go unclaimed in a single year.
UniRush LLC is a joint venture between Rush Communications and Cincinnati-based Unifund Corp.
