The actor’s publicist told the Detroit News that the lien for unpaid federal employment taxes from 2002 and 2004 had actually been resolved back in February for a significantly smaller number than the amount on the lien. However, there was a delay in communication between the department that resolved the tax debt and the collections department.

Bridges, son of the late actor Lloyd Bridges, won an Academy Award for Best Actor this year for his performance as country singer Bad Blake in “Crazy Heart.” He had earlier been nominated for the Oscar for his roles in “The Last Picture Show,” “Thunderbolt and Lightfoot,” “Starman” and “The Contender.”
