KPMG announced a new alliance with technology company Nuix to assist clients in managing their large amounts of unstructured data for digital investigations, cybersecurity, eDiscovery, information governance, email migration and privacy.
Specializing in helping people make fact-based decisions from unstructured data, Nuix offers the Nuix Engine, advanced technology that provides fast and accurate data indexing, searching and analysis. In partnership with KPMG’s holistic forensic technology capabilities, the alliance will improve visibility into unstructured data within an enterprise to identify and protect personally identifiable information, protected health information and other confidential data.
KPMG Forensic Technology helps clients achieve compliance and efficiency in managing records and information, developing efficient, repeatable business processes for responding to legal and regulatory requests for electronically stored information, and providing collection, processing and hosting of this information for review and production.
"With the proliferation of Big Data, organizations are grappling with how to mitigate risk while maintaining the appropriate levels of data security, storage, and retrieval access?all at the lowest possible cost," stated Ed Goings, principal and national co-leader of KPMG's Forensic Technology practice. "KPMG has successfully used Nuix as its primary tool to process electronic data for fraud and cyber investigation and eDiscovery matters for the past four years. By formalizing and deepening our alliance relationship, we will create the structure necessary to drive our market efforts, better serve our clients, and launch a new chapter of growth."
Together, KPMG and Nuix will also assist clients in locating and collecting data for regulatory compliance, reducing the volume of data subject to eDiscovery, and gaining control of infrastructure storage costs.
"Organizations that have learned to work with unstructured information for investigation and eDiscovery already have the skills to solve many other enterprise data challenges, because data is just data,” stated Nuix CEO Eddie Sheehy. “Once you gain visibility into its content, you can make effective decisions and implement them. We're excited to be working with KPMG as their clients take control, reduce risk and extract value from their data across new areas including cybersecurity, information governance, email migration, and privacy."
Further insight into how KPMG and Nuix are working together, and the problems caused by the growth of unstructured data, are included in this short animation.
