Kyte Launches Comedy CPE

"Comedy" and "accounting" might not go together in most scenarios, but accountant-turned-stand-up-comedian Greg Kyte believes that the two can complement one another under the right circumstances. Combining his CPA expertise with 12 years of experience as a stand-up, Kyte has launched Comedy CPE, which looks to teach while entertaining.

Comedy CPE sessions will combine NASBA-certified continuting professional education with stand-up comedy. Current topics include ethics and fraud, and Kyte expects to add more in the future.

"The vision is to transform CPE -- arguably the most boring experience imaginable -- into a memorable and highly entertaining experience," Kyte said in a statement. "The beautiful thing is that, when done properly, presenting material through comedy doesn't diminish the quality of the content. Not only does comedy have a way of self-scrutinizing the content for weaknesses and inconsistencies, it also makes the material more 'sticky,' that is, easier to understand, easier to remember, and easier to retell."

To add to the experience, the inaugural event, titled "Holy Mother of Fraud," will not be held at a hotel or conference room, but rather at Wiseguys Comedy Club, just outside of Salt Lake City.

"This isn't an event for people who can't laugh at themselves and at the profession," Kyte added. "The idea is for people to leave the office a little early on a Friday afternoon, have a good time, learn some interesting stuff, and fulfill a regulatory requirement."

"Holy Mother of Fraud" will be held October 24, 2014, in West Valley City, Ut. Tickets are $50, with group discounts also available. For more information on the event and Greg Kyte, head tohis website here.
