Levitt, Isaacson Named to Global Center Board

Former Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Arthur Levitt Jr. and former CNN chair Walter Isaacson have been named to the board of the Global Center for Leadership & Business Ethics, an independent entity established to recognize individuals and organizations with extraordinary business ethics and leadership qualities.

In addition to Levitt, who now serves as senior advisor at private equity concern the Carlyle Group, and Isaacson, now CEO at the Aspen Institute, other Global Center board members are: Dr. Reatha Clark King, former president and executive director of the General Mills Foundation; Lord David Simon, former BP chairman and British Labor peer; and Dr. Helmut Sohmen, chairman and chief executive of World-Wide Shipping Agency. William W. George, former CEO and chairman of Medtronic Inc., serves as chairman.

The center was established in July by KPMG International to manage and administer the nomination process for the Laureate Award & Medal Series, which will honor those committed to excellence in business ethics. The medal series will include awards for leadership, corporate governance, reporting and disclosure, social responsibility, and education.

The awards, which are modeled on the prizes given by the Nobel Foundation, are part of KPMG's "Global Initiative on Leadership & Business Ethics."

Award winners will be determined in November and announced in December, with presentation of the awards early in 2005. Nominations may be sent to nominations@theglobalcenter.org. Much like the guidelines of the Nobel Foundation and the Norwegian Nobel Committee, nominations aren't required to comply with a particular format.
