Liberty Releases Tax Season Results

Liberty Tax Service reported a 20 percent increase in the number of tax returns prepared at its franchises for the 2007 fiscal year.

The company said that it filed more than 1 million tax returns in the United States, and more than 300,000 additional returns in Canada. In a statement, founder and chief executive John Hewitt noted that the business is about to celebrate its tenth year of operations.

In addition to the growth in the number of returns, Liberty also posted 12 percent growth in fees and 35 percent growth in revenues. A year ago, Liberty said its tax season sales revenues were up 44 percent, while completed return numbers were up 20 percent.

Liberty has over 2,400 offices in the United States and Canada, and is continuing to add between 300 and 500 new locations annually. The company will release its entire fiscal-year results in early July.
