CALIFORNIA

WilsonMorgan to merge into Marcum

Details: WilsonMorgan LLP has agreed to merge into Top 100 Firm Marcum LLP's Southern California practice. WilsonMorgan, which is based in Irvine, Calif., provides traditional tax, accounting and audit services. WilsonMorgan co-founders Phil Wilson and Jayson Morgan, along with five partners and 30 staff members, will join Marcum.

 

ILLINOIS

BDO adds three firms to its lineup

Details: BDO USA LLP has tapped into Alaska, Minnesota and the Northeast for its latest additions. The Chicago-based firm picked up the Anchorage-based firm Mikunda, Cottrell & Co., which comes with 100 employees and six partners.

Moquist Thorvilson Kaufmann LLC, which is based in the Minneapolis market, also joined BDO. The addition includes 60 staff members and six partners.

BDO bulked up its Northeast presence with the addition of ParenteBeard LLC's banking practice, which brought in 12 partners and roughly 97 employees. The staff will be located throughout BDO's Pennsylvania, Delaware, New York and New Jersey offices.

 

MARYLAND

Weyrich, Cronin & Sorra and Michael D. Sisk & Co. merge

Details: Weyrich, Cronin & Sorra has added Michael D. Sisk & Co., to its firm. Weyrich, Cronin & Sorra was founded in 1979, by Carroll Weyrich, William Cronin, and Manny Sorra. The firm has more than 45 employees throughout its three offices, which are located in Lutherville, Bel Air and Elkton, Maryland.

 

NORTH CAROLINA

CRI merges with Pittard, Perry & Crone

Details: Top 100 Firm Carr, Riggs & Ingram LLC has tapped into North Carolina by merging with Pittard, Perry & Crone Inc.

"CRI's aggressive growth plan has included expansion into the North Carolina market, and Pittard, Perry & Crone's strong presence in the state coupled with their synergistic culture and values makes them a natural choice for our firm," CRI's managing partner and chairman William Carr said in a statement. "Pittard, Perry & Crone's partners and team members will strengthen CRI's depth of industry experience in agribusiness, construction, government services, health care, and not-for-profits, while their team continues to deliver high-quality accounting services - now with additional specialty accounting services also available." Pittard, Perry & Crone, will take on the CRI name.

 

CliftonLarsonAllen bolsters its North Carolina presence

Details: Top 100 Firm CliftonLarsonAllen has acquired the Charlotte, N.C.-based accounting firm Monaghan Group.

Monaghan Group provides resources for interim accounting roles and financial projects throughout Charlotte, Triad and the Triangle areas of North Carolina.

More than fifty Monaghan Group professionals, including partners Beth Monaghan and Nancy Brown, joined CLA. The Monaghan Group plans to move into the CLA Charlotte office at 101 North Tryon Street in the Independence Center.

 

DHG Healthcare adds Crossfire Advisory

Details: Charlotte, N.C.-based Top 100 FIrm Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP has added Carmel, Tenn.-based Crossfire Advisory to its national health care practice, DHG Healthcare.

Brad Benton, partner-in-charge at DHG Healthcare, noted that the new addition doubles the firm's capacity in revenue performance and extends its geographic footprint throughout the Midwest. DHG Healthcare's revenue performance/transformation services include revenue cycle performance, revenue transformation, ICD-10 transition, physician enterprise optimization and compliance.

 

UTAH

Eide Bailly adds second Utah firm

Details: Top 100 Firm Eide Bailly has added the Salt Lake City-based CPA firm Lake, Hill & Myers to its roster. LHM marks the second Utah addition for Eide Bailly. In November 2012, Eide Bailly merged in Ogden-based Schmitt, Griffiths, Smith & Co.

The new combination with Lake, Hill & Myers will increase Eide Bailly's total staff to more than 1,200, including 175 partners. LHM will add $3.5 million of revenue to Eide Bailly's $167 million.

LHM brings 24 individuals to Eide Bailly, including five partners: Kelly Bryson, Ted Hill, Bob Lake, Gary Myers and Jeff Sorensen. Kevin Andersen, a partner at Eide Bailly, will serve as the partner-in-charge of the firm's Utah office. Andersen also serves in this role for the firm's Boise, Idaho, office. Stuart Tholen, also a partner at Eide Bailly and previously partner-in-charge of the firm's Ogden location, has been named practice leader of the firm's accounting services/ERP technology solutions practice.

 

WASHINGTON, D.C.

Bazilio Cobb Associates spins off assurance practice

Details: Bazilio Cobb Associates has spun off its assurance practice to BCA Watson Rice LLP.

"The transfer of the BCA assurance practice will significantly improve our client services, regionally and nationally, and strengthens our position as an industry leader," Watson Rice's New York and New Jersey managing partner Bennie Hadnott said in statement.

The spinoff comes shortly after one of BCA's former employees was accused of being involved in a campaign contribution scheme. According to published reports, Jeffery Thompson, the former CEO of Thompson, Cobb, Bazilio & Associates, allegedly was running a straw donor scheme. It's not clear if Thompson's actions led to the spinoff of the assurance practice. However, when Accounting Today asked Hadnott what prompted the split, the managing partner answered, "Do you think that they would need to sell their practice if they didn't have an issue down there?"

 

WISCONSIN

Sikich to merge with Kolb+Co.

Details: Top 100 Firm Sikich LLP has signed a letter of intent to merge with Brookfield, Wis.-based public accounting and consulting firm Kolb+Co. The new addition will be Sikich's first Wisconsin-based office.

Sikich will gain 15 partners and more than 60 professionals. New team members are specialized in auditing, accounting, consulting, mergers and acquisitions advisory, and retirement plan administration and a number of other services. Tom Luken, president of Kolb+Co., will join Sikich as a partner.
