Tomei & Tonjes and Sweeney Kovar merge

Details: Tomei & Tonjes LLP has merged its tax and accounting practice with Sweeney Kovar LLP, in Danville, Calif. Steve Tonjes, who has more than 30 years of experience in taxation, plans to join Sweeney Kovar.

Intuit to acquire Lettuce

Details: Intuit agreed to acquire Lettuce, a start-up providing cloud-based solutions and an inventory and order management system to product-based small businesses. As a current Intuit Partner Platform developer, Lettuce's solutions are already integrated within QuickBooks, with the majority of customers already utilizing the integration.

 

CANADA

Deloitte adds crisis management firm

Details: Deloitte has acquired Urgentis Digital Crisis Solutions Inc., a Calgary, Canada-based firm that helps companies prepare for and respond to cybersecurity events. Deloitte's Canadian firm plans to combine the crisis management firm with its nationwide cybersecurity practice to improve its ability to help companies protect their information assets from sophisticated cybersecurity risks.

 

FLORIDA

Carr, Riggs & Ingram adds IT audit firm

Details: Top 100 Firm Carr, Riggs & Ingram LLC has acquired Auditwerx, a CPA firm specializing in performing auditor assurance engagements to meet regulatory or customer compliance needs for service companies. Auditwerx will maintain its current staff and its Tampa location, and will operate under the name of Auditwerx, a Division of CRI.

 

MICHIGAN

KPMG adds restructuring advisory firm

Details: Big Four firm KPMG LLP has acquired a majority of the assets of restructuring advisory firm BBK. BBK's chief executive officer, Bill Diehl, will join KPMG as co-leader of the firm's operational restructuring practice.

 

NORTH CAROLINA

Block acquires new river

Details: H&R Block has acquired New River Innovation, a developer of tax-issue resolution software Beyond415. Greensboro, N.C.-based New River Innovation will become a part of the H&R Block organization and will no longer offer Beyond415 commercially, according to a statement from Block.

 

TEXAS

BDO expands into Fort Worth

Details: BDO USA LLP has added the Fort Worth, Texas-based regional accounting firm Hartman Leito & Bolt to its roster. The merger was set to close on June 1. HLB's staff of 60, which includes six partners, will join BDO. HLB was established in 1986 and provides services to small businesses and multi-faceted organizations throughout North Texas. Its client base consists of those in the manufacturing, construction, real estate and nonprofit industries.

The new resources will bring BDO's total staff in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex to approximately 225. HLB has been a BDO Seidman Alliance member since 2002.

E&Y acquires Atlas Service Link

Details: Ernst & Young LLP has acquired the corporate tax management consulting firm Atlas Service Link LLC. Headquartered in Dallas, Atlas provides an integrated approach to enhancing tax data management, technology optimization and process re-engineering initiatives for multinational companies.

Atlas founders Tony LaBove and Travis Fox were previously with E&Y.

 

WASHINGTON

Avalara acquires tax automation solutions line

Details: Cloud-based sales tax and compliance automation technology provider Avalara has acquired Zytax energy-related tax automation solutions from FuelQuest, a provider of on-demand software and services for global downstream energy companies. The addition will broaden Avalara's tax content domestically and internationally.

 

WISCONSIN

Sitzberger Widmann merges with Hau & Associates

Details: Milwaukee-area firms Sitzberger Widmann & Co. and Hau & Associates have merged to form Sitzberger Hau & Co. SC. The newly combined firm includes 16 CPAs and a staff of more than 38 across three Milwaukee-area offices.

Dan Hau established his practice in 1981 and brings more than 30 years of experience into the fold.
