FLORIDA

Vero Beach firms merge

Details: List & Reamy and Colton & Williams, of Vero Beach, Fla., have agreed to merge. The firms will operate under the name Colton, Williams, List & Reamy CPAs and will be headquartered in the former Colton & Williams offices.

The newly combined firm's services include tax planning and preparation, estates and trusts, and attest services, as well as outsourced CFO and back-office accounting services. Andrew Williams will lead the firm as managing partner, while Eddie List, H. James Reamy, Billy Chavers and Fred Nelson were tapped as partners.

 

IDAHO

CliftonLarsonAllen acquires Beck Advisory Group

Details: Top 100 Firm CliftonLarsonAllen has acquired national health care consulting firm Beck Advisory Group. Beck Advisory Group, which is based in Boise, provides accounting, regulatory, transaction, and business consulting to physician practices. Joining CLA are seven Beck Advisory Group professionals, including partner Jim Beck. Beck founded the firm in 2010 and has spent the last eight years in health care consulting, building on his 12 years of experience as a hospital CFO and senior executive.

 

MARYLAND

Aronson acquires Springreef Partners

Details: Top 100 Firm Aronson LLC has acquired Springreef Partners, a consultancy that provides wealth management services to high-net-worth families. Doug Black, a wealth management industry veteran, founded Springreef Partners in 2010. He will join Aronson as a director and will continue to oversee Springreef Partners through the transition.

 

Weyrich, Cronin & Sorra adds Chesapeake Accounting

Details: Weyrich, Cronin & Sorra, Chartered and Chesapeake Accounting & Bookkeeping Service Inc. have agreed to merge. "I'm looking forward to the expanded service offerings that WC&S can offer to our clients," Chesapeake's Jennifer Arches said in a statement.

"Jennifer Arches embodies the heartbeat of our firm, which is to provide the highest-quality services to clients and deliver it with close personal attention," WC&S partner Benny Walker added. "WC&S has been doing work in Cecil County for several years and performing the tax work for Jennifer's clients for the past two years. The merger was a natural next step."

 

NEW JERSEY

Prager Metis merges with Goldfinger Block Glickenhaus Dinar

Details: Prager Metis CPAs LLC has merged with Springfield, N.J.-based Goldfinger Block Glickenhaus Dinar LLP. The deal closed on July 1, 2013. GBGD, which was founded in 1949, provides accounting, auditing, bookkeeping and tax prep services for closely held companies, working directly with business owners in a variety of industries.

 

NEW YORK

Janover and Schoenfeld Mendelsohn Goldfarb agrees to merge

Details: Schoenfeld Mendelsohn Goldfarb LLP has merged into Janover LLC. The deal closed on August 1. The partners of SMG, Herb Schoenfeld, Harvey Mendelsohn, Robert Goldfarb and Patricia Weiss, will continue in their existing roles in the combined firm. M&A consulting firm Transition Advisors advised on the merger.

 

MISSOURI

Crowe Horwath partners with Chan Healthcare

Details: Top 100 Firm Crowe Horwath LLP has formed a strategic partnership with Chan Healthcare. Clayton, Mo.-based Chan Healthcare, which is a joint partnership of Ascension and Catholic Health Initiatives, provides internal audit services to healthcare networks and facilities throughout the U.S. Crowe Horwath and Chan Healthcare have already signed a letter of intent to combine resources.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed but the transaction is expected to close in the fall. Chan Healthcare intends to retain its existing executive management team and key executives.

 

NORTH CAROLINA

Bernard Robinson & Co. merges with Furr & Newell

Details: Bernard Robinson & Co. of Greensboro, N.C., has entered the Raleigh market with the addition of Furr & Newell. Bernard Robinson increased its firm size to a total 90 employees, which includes 55 CPAs. Bernard Robinson started to expand in North Carolina when it opened an office in the Winston-Salem market in May.

 

TEXAS

WTAS adds E.M. Bossin & Co.

Details: WTAS has merged with Houston-based E.M. Bossin & Co. Texas has been a primary part of WTAS's growth strategy. "We added an office in Dallas earlier this year, and establishing a Houston location was just a matter of identifying the right players to provide best-in-class solutions," WTAS CEO Mark Vorsatz said in a statement.

Elliot Bossin, who founded E.M. Bossin & Co. in 1991, will join WTAS as managing director. Bossin started his career at Arthur Andersen and built E.M. Bossin & Co. into a team of 11, all of whom will join the Houston office of WTAS.

Bossin has more than 40 years of experience in tax consulting and compliance in a number of areas, including estate and family tax, real estate, oil and gas, and corporate tax.

 

BDO boosts San Antonio practice

Details: Top 100 Firm BDO USA LLP has expanded its presence in San Antonio by bringing on three partners and 25 staff from Dallas-based Regional Leader TravisWolff. The agreement, which is effective immediately, gives BDO approximately 70 total staff in San Antonio, and over 300 professionals throughout Texas. The three new BDO partners are Kevin Petermann, who will serve as tax managing partner for the combined San Antonio practice; Gary Hoyack, who will serve as assurance managing partner; and tax partner Janet Stigent-Burns.

 

UTAH

Eide Bailly picks up Hansen, Barnett & Maxwell

Details: Top 100 Firm Eide Bailly has agreed to merge with Salt Lake City based Hansen, Barnett & Maxwell. The new addition makes Eide Bailly the first regional firm in Utah.

Eide Bailly got a leg up in the area when it merged with two other Utah firms in the course of eight months. HBM brings 52 staff members to Eide Bailly, including nine partners: Bob Bowen, Mark Anderson, Mike Michelsen, Paul Skeen, Doug Hawkes, Ross Youngberg, Steve Avis, Matt Egnew and Cory Neilson. Eide Bailly's total Utah staff has reached 125, and the new addition raised its total staff to 1,300, including 194 partners.
